our Interior Designer

Joining the team almost two years ago, our Interior Designer, Dustin brings experience, new ideas and on-trend vision to all of our homes. Dustin understands that the essence of interior design is and always will be about the people and how they live. Coming to Parkwood with a vision and the pure grit, he epitomizes Parkwood’s “We Start With You” value; his enthusiasm and energy resonates at every design meetings he has with our homeowners. We are thrilled to have him on our team.

What did you do prior to working at Parkwood?
I worked for a smaller custom homebuilder in Lethbridge as an Interior Designer & Sales Assistant, before relocating to Edmonton.

What do you like most about your job at Parkwood?
My favorite part about working at Parkwood is that no two days are the same. I get the pleasure of working on many unique and exciting projects such as the Full House Lottery Dream Homes!

What is your favorite Parkwood home model?
The ‘Woodbury’, mainly because I had a large hand in designing the floor plan! Check it out for yourself at our Woodbury show home in Rosenthal, in West Edmonton!

What is one of your favorite customer homes you have worked on?
It would have to be a personalized Saffron Park Royale III. This home featured a 2-way fireplace between the den and living room, curved staircase, navy blue Chef’s Kitchen with 3D tile backsplash and a fully tiled Ensuite shower with quartz bench – stunning!

What is a hobby you do in your spare time?
I enjoy spending time in the sun and travelling. I recently returned from an Alaskan cruise!

I am looking forward to finishing my backyard landscaping and travelling to New York City in this month! I am also very excited to be working on our 2020 Full house Lottery Dream Home – stay tuned for more details early next year!

A regular in Parkwood possession posts, meet Site Supervisor Ryan!

A Parkwood veteran and member of the team for almost 8 years, Ryan has held a few positions over his tenure. He first started with Parkwood as a Warranty Tech for over 4 years before taking on a new role as Site Assistant for 2 years. During this period he thoroughly built his skillset, knowledge and construction experience that saw him promoted to Site supervisor in January of 2018. Ryan continually demonstrates Parkwood’s core values of ‘Caring’ and ‘Reliable’ each and everyday on all of his builds. We are thrilled to have him as part of our team!

What did you do prior to working at Parkwood?
Before starting at Parkwood, I worked at Home Outfitters while taking a construction course at NAIT for Millwork and Carpentry. Coming out of NAIT I started framing houses for a few years prior to working at Parkwood.

What do you like most about your job at Parkwood?
What I like most about my job is the challenges it brings to the table. I can’t say I go a week at Parkwood without learning something new. In my position as a Site Supervisor, you get the chance to listen and learn about the full aspect of building a home from all the trades that are involved in the process. Residential home construction is always advancing with ideas of how to improve the homes we live in today. It’s a career that always keeps you engaged!

Another part I like most about this career is looking back at some of the past projects I’ve built with Parkwood and knowing I’ve left a mark on this planet well after I’m gone.

What is your favorite Parkwood home model?
My favorite model at Parkwood is the Woodbury – as the layout is functional, with a cozy feel, and has plenty of room to host the holiday get-togethers with family and friends.

What is a hobby you do in your spare time?
When I’m not working, I’m usually outdoors making memories with friends and family – whether it be camping/backpacking, fishing or even hunting. My newest interest though is trying out new cooking recipes using wild game.

What are you most looking forward to that is upcoming?
I’m looking forward to the new Graydon Hill zero lot line projects coming to Parkwood in late 2019/early 2020 season. It’s a new challenge with a lot to offer!

On a more personal level, my fiancé and I will be purchasing our first home together in the spring of 2020!!

Meet Our Drafting Lead!

Shanelle | Department: Drafting | Role: Architectural Technologist
Favourite Home Model: The Alexandria

Shanelle started at Parkwood over a decade ago as a recent graduate of interior design and architectural technologies. As the youngest employee at Parkwood (at the time), her eyes were wide open with a shy and quiet personality. Shanelle is a dedicated mom, a hustler of jewellery and an avid traveller. While at Parkwood, she has hit many exciting milestones; she got married, had two adorable kiddos and raised three dogs. Shanelle’s loving family keeps her heart (and hands) full.

Professionally she has an ability to catch the smallest detail and a mind that allows her to conceptualize the entire project with nothing more then a few lines on a napkin. From quiet and shy to outspoken and confident as the lead of Drafting, Shanelle is an instrumental part of Parkwood.

Tell us a bit about your family!
I’m a wife and a mom. I’ve been married to James for 10 years and we have two kids – Summer (5) and Merric (2). I’m also a dog mom to three dogs; our two Chihuahuas are Lola and Sofie, and then we have our Pom-Chi, Roxy.

What gets you up in the morning?
I would say it’s my responsibilities to my family. Not only in the sense of going to work at a job I enjoy in order to provide financially, but also just be there for all of them when they need me most, whether it’s my kids, spouse, or extended family members.

How do you unwind after a busy day on the job?
I like to unwind by spending time in the evening playing or watching TV with my kids. Although at times it’s quite chaotic, it’s a change of pace and I love being able to do what the kids like to do. And, when life provides a bit of time, I really enjoy doing yoga. Recently I’ve been practicing yoga that incorporates relaxation and meditation techniques.

What’s your guilty pleasure?
I love going shopping. Even if I’m not looking for anything in particular, it’s not a shock to say that I typically find something to buy whether it’s for myself or someone else.

If you could have a coffee with any famous person, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
I would love to travel back to the ‘50s and have coffee with Coco Chanel! I find her fascinating. Not only because of the fashion icon aspects of how she revolutionized women’s fashion, but because she was a woman with a strong sense of self and stayed true to that in what once was a “man’s” world.

Any tips for someone who’s interested in diving into the design/architecture world?
Do it because you love it. There are also so many different aspects to both the design and architecture world, that if you truly love it, you will find your niche and enjoy going to work.
