Fall is in full swing, and with it comes brisk mornings, falling leaves, and maybe even a little snow. We all know how unpredictable Alberta weather can be, so set your home up for success through the seasons!

Check Your Humidifier, Furnace, and HRV Filters
Make sure the air in your home is fresh and healthy by cleaning out your humidifier, furnace and HRV filters. Make sure your humidifier is turned on for fall. Keeping your humidity levels at 25% – 35% will help improve airflow and combat moisture by balancing your home’s humidity and condensation.

Check Your Eaves + Downspouts
Have you cleaned out your eaves yet? It’s very important to take care of those loose leaves, dirt and debris so you don’t end up with a frozen, clogged up system. Don’t forget to put up your downspouts for freezing water and place them back down on warmer days to manage the melt – just make sure they are pointed away from your foundation. If you see run-off, watch for pooling around your home and adjust your downspout when needed.
Winterize Your Hose Connection
Getting your hose bibs ready for fall before the frost sets in is a minor maintenance item that will help you avoid major repairs in the future. Be sure to disconnect your garden hose(s) from your exterior hose bib(s) before the temperature drops below zero! This will help avoid frozen and cracked pipes.
Check for Settlement, Test Detectors + Seal Your Driveway
Be sure to fill any settled soil areas with compacted clay as part of your drainage maintenance plan to keep water away from your home.  Also make sure to check the batteries in your carbon monoxide and smoke detectors to ensure they are in good working order. You should also seal your driveway before the weather gets too cold, which assists with the longevity of the driveway and exterior elements only Mother Nature can control.
