What You’ll Do:

Reporting to the Controller, the Assistant Controller role is accountable for a range of accounting and people responsibilities:

The Knowledge

  • Accurate and timely review of invoices from the OCR system and ensuring approvals are obtained quickly
  • Plan and produce cheque run with necessary reports to ensure management approval
  • Bank reconciliations, intercompany reconciliations and other various account reconcilations
  • Foster and maintain relationships with trade partners
  • Develop strong working relationships with operations team in order to facilitate timely, accurate, and relevant invoicing
  • Maintain and upkeep accounts payable files and filing
  • Perform job cost audits on homes that have taken possession
  • Preparing accurate reports of monthly and annual financial results
  • Identify and develop procedures to create efficiencies, through automation of processes to develop and maintain internal controls
  • Assist in the preparation of annual operating budgets, and financial forecasts
  • Preparation and review of all journal entries and working papers associated with monthly, quarterly and year-end processes
  • Manage the full cycle of accounting, including but not limited to:
    • Accounts receivable
    • Accounts payable
    • Inventory
    • Payroll
    • GST
    • Income taxes
  • Such other duties and responsibilities as may be determined from time to time

The Person

  • Recently acquired accounting designation (CPA) or,
  • Enrolled in an accounting designation program (CPA)
  • Minimum 3 – 5 years’ hands on accounting experience with strong preference to candidates with industry experience
  • Previous experience in Project Accounting (SAGE 300) will be considered an asset
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with an emphasis on attention to details
  • Self-motivated and hardworking individual with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently, and take initiative, as well as work within a team environment and actively participate in team meetings
  • Maintain and promote the professional image of Parkwood Master Builder by providing a high caliber of positive customer service
